Connors Lake Road.
I was able to visit the property at 27340 W. Connors Lake Road on August 25, 2003
upon a request from Steven and Shelia McNeill to construct in-ground stairs on their
lake property. The area will the stairs will be installed is on a gentle slope to the lake,
which levels out before reaching the lake. In-ground stairs may be installed on the slope.
According to the attached plan, the stairs are proposed to be 12 feet wide by 14 feet long.
As directed by the Burnett County Shoreland Zoning Ordinance, stairs may not exceed a
four-foot width (see number 2 below). Therefore, the stairs may be installed if they are 4
feet wide by 14 feet long.
The stairway must also follow the guidelines as directed by the Burnett County Shoreland
Zoning Ordinance. Stairways and elevated walkways are a permitted use and must
conform to the following:
1. The structure shall be located so as to minimize earth disturbing activities and
shoreline vegetation removal during construction and to be visually inconspicuous as
viewed from the adjacent waterway and public thoroughfares.
2. The steps will be no more than four feet wide.
3. Structures shall be inconspicuously colored.
4. Railings are permitted only where required by safety concerns.
5. Canopies and roofs on such structures are prohibited.
6. One landing is permitted only where required by safety concerns and shall not exceed
40 square feet in area.
Before construction begins, correctly install a silt fence downslope of the project area.
This silt fence may be removed after vegetation is established on the areas disturbed
during construction.
If you have any questions, please contact me at(715) 349-2186.
