Burnett County Land and Water Conservation Department
7410 County Road K, #109
Siren, WI 54872
Telephone #(715) 349-2186
Fax#(715) 349-2102
September 11, 2002 c
TO: Jim Flanigan, Zoning Administrator pn?`y
r
FROM: Cheryl Bursik, Shoreline Restoration Consultant
CC: Dave Ferris, County Conservationist
Dave Ferris and I visited parcel w/computer number 012-4228-03-200 owned ty tner on
September 9. We found the vegetation protection area disturbed within 35 feet of Pose.
The vegetation protection area is 75 feet deep on Class 3 lakes such as Point Lake. The vegetation
protection area(the buffer) consists of two major components: the first component (35 feet deep)is a
no-touch, natural vegetation zone, and the second component is a minimum maintenance zone. A single
viewing/access corridor up to 30 feet wide may cross both zones perpendicular to the shore.
Vegetation removal and land disturbing activities are prohibited in the no-touch zone. Limited
pruning and mowing are allowed in the viewing/access corridor and the minimum maintenance
zone. Walkways, pathways, and stairs must be located in the viewing/access corridor, and piers, wharfs
and lifts must be placed in water immediately in front of the corridor. Bare areas must be vegetated in
the viewing corridor to minimize erosion.
RESTORATION REQUIREMENTS
The contractor has adequately stabilized the viewing corridor down the hill to the wetland by seeding
and placing erosion control blanket on the slope. Silt fence is also installed below the construction site.
The viewing corridor on the peninsula near the water must be limited to 30 feet wide within 75 feet of
the water. The current cleared area is 53 wide by 28 feet deep. Revegetate a no-touch area at least 18
wide by 28 feet deep to establish a viewing corridor no wider than 30 feet. Choose trees and shrubs
from the Oak or Pine Forest list in the enclosed landowner guide. Plant at least 8 shrubs and 3 trees
scattered throughout the no-touch area to be planted.
The following are recommended:
White Pine
Hazelnut
Grey dogwood
Serviceberry
Mowing is prohibited in the no-touch area—allow the groundcover to recover naturally.
Complete the restoration by November 1, 2002.
