E © lam V l
September 9,2021 D
SEP 1 3 2011
Mr.Jason Towne
Burnett County Zoning Administrator Sernett County
7410 County Road K Land Services Department
Siren, WI 54872
Dear Mr. Towne:
We are contacting you as members of the Loon Lake Property Owners Association and as property
owners on the east side of Loon Lake. This letter is in regard to the proposed expansion of the
number of boat slips by Voyager Village on Loon/Cadotte Lake. We are strongly opposed to the
increase in boat slips from the current number of 38 to the plan by Voyager Village of 70. Although
we recognize and appreciate Voyager Village's positive impact to our community,we have concerns
for the potential negative impact to lake water quality should this plan go forward.
In 2002 the Planned Unit Development for Voyager Village was amended with, approval from Burnett
County,to allow for an increase in the number of boat slips on six lakes, with Loon/Cadotte being one of
those lakes. At that time,Voyager Village stated that their long range plan was to use the lakes with the
"least impact on the environment, with priorities on the water quality, animal life, and plant life". Our
association believes that water quality and lake wildlife have been deteriorating since 2002. A significant
increase in the number of boat slips at this time would only worsen this situation.
We also feel that review is needed of present lake water quality stipulations for all area lakes. The"50-foot"
state statute minimum per boat dock seems to have outlived its purpose. It had been 150 feet up until recently.
It seems logical that the number of boats per acre of water is a more reliable method to protect water quality
and may warrant evaluation as an alternative and better determination of lake water quality. In addition, lake
depth, the types of watercraft, and motor sizes, etc. are also factors which should be included in this analysis.
Finally,Loon and Cadotte lakes are small and shallow and their water quality can be easily impacted by
excessive boating activities. Limiting the size of the marinas would be one step in the prevention of harm to
these lakes in the future. Therefore,we are requesting that our lakes—water quality, shoreline preservation,
wildlife protection—be given the same rigorous review as campgrounds(and CAFO)have been given,
halting any actions during the interim and requiring submission for approval on any and all plan proposals.
Our lakes are critical assets in making Burnett County the premier north woods destination that it has
become, and we ask your support in preserving them for everyone's future use.
Thank you for your consideration and support.
Sincerely,
1) Witt- qyAp\N I laio
Nick and Julie Pe angelo
29277 Ford Road,Danbury WI 54830
763-746-6544
juliekay.petrangelo@gmail.com
