Towne, Jason
From: Mark Tucker <mttucker86@gmail.com>
Sent: Monday, September 27, 2021 8:17 AM
To: Towne,Jason
Subject: Voyager Village boat slip expansion on Loon/Cadotte lakes
Mr. Towne,
My wife and I are members of the Loon Lake Property Association, and property owners on Loon lake. We are
concerned about Voyager Villages proposed boat slip expansion on Cadotte/Loon lake from the existing 38 to
70 slips. Adding 32 more slips to a small lake seems like a bad idea. When I first heard of this, I thought for
sure it was a joke. It's not.
In 2002 the PUD for Voyager Village and it's Recreation Plan were amended with approval from Burnett
County to allow for an increase in the number of boat slips on six lakes, with Loon/Cadotte included. At that
time the submissions by Voyager Village stated that their long range plan was to use the lakes with the "least
impact on the environment with priorities on the water quality, animal life and plant life". Our association
believes that water quality and lake wildlife have been deteriorating since 2002.
As with current comments regarding campground expansion, we also feel that review is needed of present lake
water quality stipulations - for all our area lakes. For example, the "50 foot rule" for minimum distance per boat
dock seems to have outlived its purpose. It had been 150 feet not that long ago. We feel the number of boats
per acre of water is a more reliable method to protect water quality- and may warrant evaluation as an
alternative and better determination. Lake depth, types of watercrafts and motor sizes, etc. are also factors
which must be included in this analysis.
We are requesting that our lakes -water quality, shoreline preservation, wildlife protection -be given the same
rigorous review as campgrounds (and CAFO) have been given, halting any actions during the interim and
requiring submission for approval on any and all plan proposals.
Our lakes are critical assets in making Burnett County the premier north woods destination that it has become,
and we ask your support in preserving them for our future.
My wife and I are not the type of people to deny others, but at some point overcrowding a small lake takes the
fun out of it for everybody.
I'm not sure if you are a golfer, but as an analogy: Voyager Village has a beautiful golf course. They limit the
groups of golfers to 4 or less to protect the putting greens and bigger groups would slow down play for groups
behind them. They limit the tee times to every 8 or 9 minutes to space golfers out and control speed of play for
the enjoyment of all the golfers. Allowing larger than 4 golfers per group and teeing off every 3 minutes would
take all the fun out of it for all golfers and wreck the course.
We believe that by going from 38 to 70 boat slips on a small lake is the same as if they allowed more than 4
golfers per group and tee times every three minutes. It will overcrowd our lake and lead to lake quality
deterioration.
Please share our concerns with the Board of Supervisors. Thank you for your consideration and support.
1
