•
1\'' 10I State of Wisconsin \ D EPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
r ,tib
DIVISION OF RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
MADISON, WISCONSIN 53702
January 9, 1968
Mr. Charles Tollander
Burnett County Board Chairman
Webster, Wisconsin 54893
Dear Mr. Tollander:
As you know, the Water Resources Act (Chapter 614, Laws of Wisconsin 1965)
requires that counties adopt regulations for those areas 1,000 feet from a
lake, pond, or flowage; and 300 feet from a stream or to the landward side of
the flood plain, whichever distance is greater. In addition, flood plain
regulations are required in areas where information such as flood maps, high
water marks, or detailed soil maps is available to delineate the flood plains.
The regulations adopted by a county are subject to review by the Division of
Resource Development.
We have provided shoreland and flood plain management guidelines, against
which ordinances and regulations will be measured. We will also expect the
regulations and ordinances to conform with existing regional plans and programs.
Drafts of ordinances and maps will be accepted for review, contingent upon
assurance that any subsequent revision by the county will be brought specifically
to the attention of the Division.
To aid counties in preparing flood plain regulations , it is requested that
each county submit to the Division of Resource Development a list of streams
within their boundaries for which technical engineering data is not available
to meet state flood plain management criteria. Please list the streams, in
order of the degree of flood damage potential, and describe the type of infor-
mation (i.e. , soil maps, high water marks, etc.) that is currently available.
By January 29, 1968, we need to have from you either copies of the ordin-
ances, regulations, and maps or a formal statement as to the plans of your
county with respect to submission of flood plain and shoreland zoning ordinances
and of sanitary and subdivision regulations.
We will act on these communications as rapidly as possible.
If we can be of assistance, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Freeman H.olmer
Administrator
FH:tlm
cc: Fred Evert, Charles Kozel
Leland Newman
