The review was for Meadow's Edge
Campground located at 22525 Gravel Knoll Road in Shell Lake, Wisconsin. Upon review of your
documentation and plans it has been determined that the information you supplied does not satisfy the
requirements of Wisconsin Administrative Code, Chapter ATCP 79 Campgrounds.
Please see the noted deficiencies below:
1. The application indicated a campground with a single rustic campsite, however, by definition a"rustic
campsite"does not have any campground attributes. You have indicated that a canvas style tent, and
wooden deck platform are provided at the campsite. This set-up would be considered a dependent
camping unit located on a single individual campsite.
a. See Wisconsin Legislature: ATCP 79.03(33), Wisconsin Legislature: ATCP 79.03(8)(j).
2. The proposed disposal method of human waste is to use a pop-up toilet structure with"commercially
available loo bags to be packed out with the garbage". Burnett County zoning officials have indicated
that only a pit or vault privy would be allowed per the conditional use permit issued by their department.
a. See Wisconsin Legislature: ATCP 79.16(3)(b).
3. A single dependent campsite would require a minimum of four toilets unless a variance is granted for
the allowance of less toilets. We can assist you with that variance process.
a. See Wisconsin Legislature: ATCP 79.16(3)(d)1., Wisconsin Legislature: ATCP 79.02(2).
4. Potable water under pressure is not provided within 400 feet walking distance of the campsite.
a. See Wisconsin Legislature: ATCP 79.14(3).
5. Evidence that the operator-provided camping unit meets SPS 327 construction requirements has not
been provided. You have indicated that an inspection is scheduled with the local building inspector.
a. See Wisconsin Legislature: ATCP 79.13(3)(d).
Request for hearing on Department action: ATCP 1.06 (1) WHO MAY REQUEST. A person adversely
affected by a department action may request a contested case hearing on that action. A request for a contested
case hearing shall be filed with the secretary and shall comply with sub. (2). A request for hearing on a
department action does not automatically stay or modify that action.
Wisconsin-America's Dairyland
2811 Agriculture Drive • PO Box 8911 • Madison,WI 53708-8911 • Wisconsin.gov
An equal opportunity employer
