A11M.
Maintenance
The interval for servicing septic tanks is set by state and local code. Throughout the United States there is a
wide difference of opinion on what this interval should be, but most regulatory agencies suggest two to five years.
The Zabel"' filter, which does not increase the frequency of servicing for the tank, should be cleaned when the
septic tank is normally inspected and pumped. However, our filter is virtually self-cleaning. The continued action
of the anaerobic organisms on the Zabel filter causes lodged particles to disintegrate and fall to the bottom of
the tank. If your filter contains a SmartFilter" alarm, you will be notified by an alarm when the filter needs servicing.
To service the filter:
'Servicing any Zabel filter should only be done by a certified septic tank pumper or installer.
Locate the
Sri outlet of the MEMM
septic tank. m2l
Firmly /
pull the filter handle
Remove the tank cover and slide the cartridge out
and pump the tank•if of the case.
necessary to prevent- 'Note:A tee handle may havey
any solids firb - -. to be used it the filter is too far^
below ground level to reaclp f
escaping to the fields Contact Zabel for info on teat
when the filter iso £: handles f
removed:
.= r i
SZ
While holding the cartridge over j
the access opening rinse off the
cartridge with fresh water, being Insert the filter cartridge
careful to rinse all septage material back in the case making
back into the tank. sure the filter cartridge is
,'Note:It is not necessary to clean the fifter - properly aligned and
spotless" Tne biomass growing on the fitter completely inserted in the
aides in th.e prerreatmenl process and should_ case.
be left on rhe filter, (if necessary, the cartridge -•
may be disassembled for cleaning.)
