Towne, Jason
From: Conroy, Craig
Sent: Tuesday, September 14, 2021 9:29 AM
To: Towne, Jason
Subject: Fwd: "Campground" home stretch - happy to help!
Jason,
Some input on our amendments.
Craig
Sent from my iPad
Begin forwarded message:
From: Patrick Hansen <protectbigwoodlake cr,gmail.com>
Date: September 13, 2021 at 11:19:50 AM CDT
To: cbdistrict19@burnettcounty.org
Cc: champlin steve<champlin.steve@dorseyalumni.com>
Subject: "Campground" home stretch - happy to help!
Supervisor Conroy,
Thank you for everything you're doing to respond to public concerns about campground
development and expansion in Burnett County. I know this is a tough issue that requires a
pragmatic, long-term solution.
As you and Jason Towne enter the home stretch in drafting revised ordinance language to present
to the LUIC and, hopefully, the full County board, I'd like to offer myself and Steve Champlin as
being fully available and at your service to review draft ordinance language prior to release to the
public. Steve and I have spent over two years fighting the threat of a very large (90-180+unit)
RV park "campground" in the Towns of Wood River and Trade Lake on the southern end of Big
Wood Lake. This fight finally came to a successful conclusion last week in Burnett County Court
when we settled and dismissed our lawsuit against the developer.
For now, we have averted a worst-case scenario on Big Wood Lake and saved a bible
camp, which will now be owned and operated by Forest Springs Camp & Conference Center(a
highly-regarded religious charity). But we know we won't truly have peace of mind until there
are better County rules for so-called "campgrounds".
I've copied Steve on this note. He is a retired lawyer, previously with Dorsey& Whitney, LLP.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to either or both of us directly.
Sincerely,
Patrick R. Hansen
Chair, Preserve Burnett County
Chair, Concerned Citizens of Big Wood Lake
(512) 560-1020
i
