April 1, 2025
Mr. Towne reviewed several changes in the Burnett County Land Services Land Use Ordinance
Chapter 30—various items in Articles I and II. There was a proposal allowing up to 10 chickens
in RR-I, RR-2, RR-3 zones with restrictions. There was discussion on removal of Conditional
Use Permit requirement for farms with 250 — 500 animal units, instead making them subject to
Chapter 18 regulations. For animal units, they decided to remove specific language about
contacting the County staff for manure management, instead referring them to existing
regulations in Chapter 18. For solar installations, they agreed to allow up to 10 kilowatts per
parcel as a permitted use in a residential system, with a conditional use permit required for larger
systems. The committee considered adjusting the permitted size of solar installations in
agricultural districts from 10 to 20 kilowatts per parcel. Mr. Towne discussed the addition of a
new district, A-5, which would allow for more flexibility in building residences without
requiring a rezone to an A-2 District.
Public hearing open.
Ramona Moody and Marian Nelson made comments about animal units and how they are
applied, the nutrient management plans and solar installations.
James Bernecker made comments on creating an A-5 District as he would like to see agriculture
staying in agriculture and not sub-divided.
Public hearing closed.
Committee discussion ensued.
Motion to update Text Amendment#TXT-25-01 —Burnett County Land Use Ordinance Chapter
30 — Various Items in Article I and II, have Mr. Towne make the changes, bring back to the
committee and send to the towns was made by Supervisor Shimanski, seconded by Supervisor
Chuck Anderson.
