BURNETT COUNTY
LAND & WATER CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT
7410 County Road K,#109
Siren, WI 54872
Telephone:(716)349-2186 Fax: (715)349-2102
July 22, 2004
Kathleen Mails
738 Watson Ave.
St. Paul, MN 55102
Dear Kathleen:
On July 15, 2004, I visited your property to determine whether a small path would be
allowed for accessing the lake with a small vehicle, due to a family member with a
disability.
The path will be allowed with the following requirements:
1) The path can be no wider than 4 feet, total width.
2) The path must be constructed of pervious materials, such as crushed rock
bordered by landscape timbers. No impervious surfaces can be created. When
using crushed rock, be sure to underlay this with geotextile filter fabric to prevent
soil from washing out underneath it.
3) The bank can be dug out just enough to accommodate widening of the existing
path, however this must be stabilized within 24 hours of excavation, using small
cement blocks or bricks or a similar type of permanent retainer. Any excavation
must be for the sole purpose of creating the path, any other excavation will be
considered a violation.
4) You must stay with the current layout of the existing path, with a small access at
the top of the slope (probably makes sense to cut a small access on the west side
of the existing stairway and tie this into the existing path at the bottom of the
stairs). In other words you are not allowed to reroute the path or add to the
overall length of the path with the exception of the access at the top of the slope,
next to the stairs.
This access will require a Land Use Permit from the Burnett County Zoning Department.
You can contact them at 715-349-2138. No work can be started until this permit
