SEAL Qc
BURNETT COUNTY
ower LAND & WATER CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT
Z 7410 County Road K,#109
Siren, WI 54872
c9UNTV_ Telephone: (715)349-2186 Fax: (715)349-2102
LWCI)@burnetteounty.org
Shoreline Buffer Restoration Plan
Rick Solt
20700 Sunrise Point
Grantsburg,WI 54840
Buffer Restoration
The restored buffer must extend from the ordinary high water mark, 50 feet inland. Buffers consist of two major
components: The first component(35 feet deep) is a no-touch, natural vegetation zone and the second
component is a minimum maintenance zone. A single viewing/access corridor up to 35 feet wide for every full
100 feet of frontage, may cross both zones perpendicular to the shore. Vegetation removal, cutting, trimming
and land disturbing activities are prohibited in the no-touch zone. Limited pruning and mowing are
allowed in the viewing/access corridor and the minimum maintenance zone. Walkways, pathways and
stairs must be located in the viewing/access corridor; and piers, wharfs and lifts must be placed in the water
immediately in front of the corridor.
The no-touch zone must be established and maintained from the ordinary high water mark and extend inland
thirty-five feet. The remaining buffer arca, extending back to 50 feet and the 30 foot viewing/access corridor
must have adequate vegetative cover such as lawn grass.
No Touch, Natural Vegetation Zone
Plant 8 native shrubs. Instructions for planting are found in the landowner guide. Plan to water
regularly the first year to ensure plant survival. Allow existing vegetation to grow with no mowing or
trimming.
*********VEGETATION NATIVE TO BURNETT COUNTY IS REQUIRED*********
The landowner guide includes appropriate plant lists and a list of businesses that provide native plants. These
plants are suited to the conditions of the property and will provide food and habitat for birds and animals around
the lake. Non-native vegetation planted in this zone as part of the restoration will be required to be
removed and replaced with native vegetation.
Shrub Plantings
Plant at least 8 shrubs scattered throughout the planting area indicated on your site diagram. Species
recommendations are as follows:
Shrubs: Elderberry Sambucus canadensis 2
Highbush Cranberry Iriburnum trilobum 2
Winterberry Holly Ilex verticillata 2
Red Osier Dogwood Cornus stoloni/fera 2
