BURNETT COUNTY
LAND & WATER CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT
7410 County Road& #109
Siren,WI 54872
Telephone:(715)349-2186 Fax:(715)349-2102
July 29, 2002
Ed Krenik
825 3`d Ave. NW
Plainview, MN 55964
Dear Mr. Krenik,
After viewing the property located at 28971 Mitchell Road by Shoal Lake on July 29,
2002, I have determined that the proposed in ground steps shall be allowed. These
precasted steps must follow the contours of the ground and must also follow the
guidelines as directed by the Burnett County Shoreland Zoning Ordinance. Stairways
and elevated walkways are a permitted use and must conform to the following:
1. The structure shall be located so as to minimize earth disturbing activities and
shoreline vegetation removal during construction and to be visually inconspicuous as
viewed from the adjacent waterway and public thoroughfares.
2. The steps will be no more than four feet wide.
3. Structures shall be inconspicuously colored.
4. Railings are permitted only where required by safety concerns.
5. Canopies and roofs on such structures are prohibited.
6. One landing is permitted only where required by safety concerns and shall not exceed
40 square feet in area.
As part of this project, the downspout that comes off of the house by the stairs should be
moved 900 to drain down the hillside. To drain away from the house and down the hill,
the downspout may have to be dug in five to six inches. Currently, the culvert is aiding
in erosion by the stairs. Moving the downspout will eliminate this.
Sincerely, //ll
Carol Fagerlin
Water Quality Specialist
Cc: Burnett County Zoning Office
Cc: Todd Kroening, Custom Retaining Walls and Landscaping
