December 22, 1999
Keith Stoner
Burnett Co. Zoning
7410 Co. Rd. K#102
Siren,WI 54872
Dear Keith,
Recd. your letter of 12/21 today with the forms for the building fees, & thanks for getting them right
out...I have always tried to do things right in accordance with laws & regulations, and want to get things
straight here.
Yes, I agree with you and Jim, there has been a LOT of miscommunication, and misinformation, on this
matter. When you were out here & gave your approval on the septic system on October 27th. (believe it
was) discussed with you my plans and how I expected to build a regular guest house for my Fiancee next
spring,&would probably put an old mobile home or my old motor home there until then because it was so
late in the season. You advised me to get a building permit when I did,and as things evolved (as I explained
to you on 12/15, on how "Murphy's Law took over), did not know that I needed a permit for a mobile
home...had called&was told I did not need a building permit in Wood River Township.
On 10/27 you agreed that my layout that I had staked out was far enough from the river, as was the septic
system (I was under the impression that it was 75', but you said 1001, & that I was in ime shape, after you
checked out how far back I was.)
Then, as I explained to you how the delivery people came in well after dark and all their problems, then
left the mobile home a few feet from where it was supposed to go, causing me all kinds of extra expense to
get utilities hooked up, etc., I re-checked to be sure that I was at least 100' from the river. Measured
straight out from the home (using your plot plan with the application, I have marked in red where), & it.
was fine....so left it there & proceeded with everything. The wheels were removed from the home,
permanent tie-downs&utilities were installed. The garage was built at considerable work& expense on my
part; (was even told ...not by you...that I did not need a permit for a garage). I explained to you last week
the whole sad situation. To even try to move the end of the home 22' now would be an immense horror
story, because the garage is now blocking the hitch end.
Do not know what conceivable problem the one end being 22' too close could cause, because my land
includes both sides of the river, and the river is totally un-navigable, (in 14 summers here have seen exactly
one canoeist try to get downriver,&he swore he would never do it again !)
So, Keith, I am trusting that my enclosed application & check for both the home & garage will end the
matter; if not, would ask that Jim come out so that I could discuss a variance on the situation. This whole
project has about driven me crazy,&would like to bring it to an end ASAP. Hope ou have a good holiday
season !
Sincerely,
Darrell D. Haverley
24167 No. Williams Road
Grantsburg,WI 54840 enc: application and $175. check
