i
5. Construct trapezoidal-grassed waterway to carry water from the stilling
basin to the lake. The waterway must not extend all the way to the lake.
It must end five feet before the ordinary high water mark. If after the
i erosion control practices are installed and vegetation has been
I established, erosion occurs between the lakeshore and the end of the
{ waterway please contact the DNR to obtain a riprap permit for only that
part of the shoreline. See the Grassed Waterway (page 5) and the plan
view drawing for details.
6. Thick, soil-holding vegetation must be established over your entire
lakeshore property, (except the forested part of your property). Areas
where grass is growing add pelletized lime (1/2 Ib/ftz — minimum) and seed
with a lawn mix. A light mulching is recommended in these areas.
Mulching will hold in moisture and help protect the seed from runoff.
Disturbed areas, where the slope is not steep, (less than 5%) seed, mulch
and net. Finally, areas that were severely disturbed by erosion, have
steep slopes, and disturbed constructing the erosion control practices
shall be sodded. See the plan view drawing for areas that are to be
sodded.
7. An additional plan will be sent (within two weeks) that will show how to
vegetate your shoreline. This plan, using native shoreline vegetation will
better protect your shoreline than conventional lawn grass can. The
planting of the first ten feet back from your lakeshore will be required. An
additional plan will be sent that will show how to vegetate 35 feet back
from your shoreline. The planting of the 35 feet back from your shoreline
is not required, however, if completed it would qualify you for the
Shoreline Incentives Program (tax credit).
