BURNETT COUNTY
LAND & WATER CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT
7410 County Road K,#109
Siren,Wl 54872
Telephone:(715)349-2186 Fax:(715)349-2102
May 16,2000
Arlene and Norman Robinson
5997 Pike Lake Road
Webster,WI 54893
Dear Arlene and Norman:
A vegetation protection area is required in order to receive the land use permit for the addition to
your house. Because you have maintained your shoreline in a mostly natural state, your
revegetation requirements are minimal.
The vegetation protection area(the buffer) consists of two major components: the fust
component(normally 35 feet deep)is a no-touch,natural vegetation zone,and the second
component is a minimum maintenance zone. A single viewing/access corridor up to 30 feet wide
may cross both zones perpendicular to the shore. Vegetation removal and land disturbing
activities are prohibited in the no-touch zone. Limited pruning and mowing are allowed in
the viewing/access corridor and the minimum maintenance zone. Walkways, pathways, and
stairs must be located in the viewing/access corridor; and piers, wharfs and lifts must be placed in
water immediately in front of the corridor.
To maintain your buffer area,do not mow beyond 35 feet from the ordinary high water mark.
This line is 20 feet from your house. The groundcover in the viewing/access corridor must
cover bare soil. Transplanting groundcovers from the woods near the road would be fine.
You may also choose to plant seedlings from the Pine/Oak Forest list in the landowner guide
I gave you today.
The zoning office requires that the enclosed agreement be signed, notarized, and registered before
the land use permit will be issued It specifies that your shoreline will be maintained according to
the vegetation protection standards in the shoreland ordinance. Plantings should be completed by
July 15,2000. The Register of Deed's address is the same as above, except that the room number
is #103. The telephone number is 715-349-2183. There is a$12 fee to register a two-page
agreement.
After your groundcovers are planted, you are eligible to register an additional covenant that will
qualify you to receive an enrollment payment and annual tax credit through the Burnett County
Shoreline Incentives Program. A brochure is enclosed that provides more information about this
program.
If you have questions, please call me at 715-268-4666 or Dave Ferns at 715-349-2186.
Sincerely, '-
Che Sur
Cheryl
Consultant to Burnett County
CC: Dave Ferris, County Conservationist
