Crane
Date: June 11, 2008
Re: CSM of Existing Parcel
I am submitting a Certified Survey Map of an existing parcel for Richard & Delrita Bignell. As we have
discussed in our written comments on the proposed ordinance, we need to have clear distinction between
subdivisions that are subject to the ordinance and CSM's of existing parcels that are not.
I believe that it is in everyone's interest, including the public and county, to resolve old or poor legal
descriptions by doing a CSM. We need to strive to keep the cost of doing this down so that we can
convince our clients that this procedure is worth the extra or additional costs.
I presume that we will be discussing this in our meeting prior to the next public hearing as directed by your
committee.
While the form that you request that we submit with the CSM is labelled for Permit Application, we don't
need a permit to perform a CSM of an existing parcel. No owner's signature should be required when
the survey is not a subdivision and does not fall under the provisions of the subdivision ordinance.
When the signature was added to the form, Jim indicated to me that the purpose was to verify that the
owner was informed about the lake access provisions. I believe that this has merit and value along with
your concern that this signature acknowledges that the owner has consented to subdividing the property.
I want to keep the cost as low as possible to be able to do CSM's of existing parcels.
Getting these signatures increases time and causes delays in completing a project. This
increases the cost. Lets get this all cleared up in our upcoming meeting or meetings.
