BURNETT COUNTY
LAND & WATER CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT
7410 County Road K, #109
Siren, WI 54872
Telephone:(715)349-2186 Fax: (715)349-2102
Erosion Control Plan
Key Requirements:
Silt Fence: Refer to standard installation drawing for instructions on installing
the silt fence. A double silt fence is required due to the steepness and length of the slope
and erosive potential of the soil. The distance between the two parallel fences cannot
exceed 15 feet and the distance from the soil disturbance to the first fence should also be
15 feet or less. Stakes used to hold the fence in place should be spaced 3 to 5 feet apart.
A greater distance is allowed with silt fence material that comes with a support cord on
top. It is extremely important to trench in the silt fence according to the installation
drawing. If the fence is not trenched in it will fail. The fence should generally follow the
contour and span the entire width of the disturbance. It should also be turned up slope at
the ends; 16 inches in elevation for 24 inch silt fence and 28 inches in elevation for 36
inch fence. All soil deposited in the silt fence must be cleaned out once the deposit
reaches 50% of the height of the fence. A technical standard, including the installation
drawing is included with this plan, please review this prior to installing silt fence. Failing
silt fence will be considered a violation of the permit conditions.
Seed and Mulch: All disturbed areas must be seeded and mulched to establish
vegetative cover. Hand spreading of straw mulch will not be adequate due to the
steepness of this site. A WisDOT Class I, Type A erosion control mat will be required as
mulch. This product should be rolled out and staked down once seed is broadcast. A list
of approved erosion mats is enclosed with this plan. A temporary seeding must be done
if disturbed areas will not be final graded for more than one month. For temporary
seedings from April 15 —July 31 use either Spring Wheat or Oats and cover with straw
mulch. For temporary seedings from August 1 — September 15 use Winter Wheat or Rye.
Be certain to purchase grain seed for temporary cover. Refer to the standard —"Seeding",
enclosed in this plan for seeding rates. A permanent seeding of"lawn grasses" can be
used to establish permanent vegetative cover on disturbed areas. In dry, sandy soils a
lawn grass mix containing a high percentage of Creeping Red Fescue is recommended.
Follow manufacturers recommendations to determine pounds/square feet of seed needed
to obtain adequate cover. Any disturbed areas must have a permanent established
stand of vegetation prior to September 15, 2004. If this is not practical, a
temporary seeding can be done. Any temporary seeding must be replaced with
permanent vegetation within one year. The conditions of the permit will not be
considered met until the disturbed areas have an adequate stand of permanent
vegetation.
Please refer to the "ECIP- Site Diagram" for general locations of erosion control
measures.
