According to the terms of this scenic easement, all future development of this
property must be reviewed by NPS before construction may begin. The requested bunkhouse will
be 12'x 24' overall dimension which includes the 4ft. porch on the front of the cabin. The
bunkhouse proposal includes plans for electricity but no indoor plumbing. Lands Specialist
Laura Hojem reviewed the proposed location for the bunkhouse last fall. The location together
with the designation of the property to be out of line-of-sight of the river and the fact that you
will be painting the exterior to match the existing house will keep this construction out of view
of the St. Croix River.
Based upon a review.ofthe plans and an inspection of your property, we believe the plans and
location for the bunkhouse which you have proposed and submitted to this office are permissible
under the terms of the NPS scenic easement. If the actual project dimensions or other details
must change because of problematic site conditions or other issues, a copy of the new plans will
be submitted for NPS review.
You should also note that our approval is contingent upon your compliance with other applicable
land use controls as required by the easement. Our approval of the project will in no way
evaluate the merits of the project in relation to local, county or state zoning, and thus will not
preclude or supersede any actions by those units of government. Therefore, you will need to
comply with all land use controls or requirements of Swiss Township, Burnett County and the
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, to whom copies of this letter are being sent.
