IoFJO
Sanitary System Review and Plan Narrative for Herzl Camp
The following sanitary design is required for the additional wastewater flows for
proposed additions at Herzl Camp located at 27332 State Rd. 35, Oakland Township,
Burnett County.
Structural improvements at the camp include the following:
4 New three bedroom directors house (300 gal./day)
4 Re-modeled existing structure to two bedrooms (200 gal./day)
Four new structures in south camp area. Total occupancy of 16 patrons x 25 gals.
=400 gals.
25 new camper cabins 175 patrons x 25 gals. = 4,375 gal. Note: some existing
cabins removed.
4 Two new shower houses to be constructed to serve camper cabins. One old
shower house to be removed.
Total estimated flow rate for additions = 5275 gallons. 5175 gallons x 1.5 design factor=
7913 gal. DWF.
Existing sanitary permits of record include:
✓ State sanitary permit# 345610 serving the dining hall and rooming house with a
DWF of 23,900 gallons/day.
✓ State sanitary permit# 79716 serving the existing shower house with a DWF of
6,250 gallons/day.
Calculating the design flow for this proposed system and adding the total design flows of
the existing systems of record, we have a total design wastewater flow of 38,063 gallons
per day for the property. This design flow exceeds the 12,000 gallon per day review
threshold implemented by the Department of Natural Resources. The DNR has
established effluent limitations and monitoring requirements where the design daily
influent wastewater flow to a POWTS exceeds 12,000 gallons per day, for the purpose of
fulfilling WPDES permit requirements under Ch. 283 WI Stats. The installation of a
pretreatment unit is in response to these requirements. Hopkins Sand & Gravel is
currently preparing a preliminary design report for the DNR in order to secure a permit.
Narrative: Starting at the southwest corner of the camp four new structures will be
constructed for the purpose of housing staff and guests. A 1000 gallon Skaw Concrete
sewage pump tank will be set, lifting the sewage to an area near the proposed new
directors house( 3 bedroom) and the renovated(2 bedroom structure). Wastewater will
gravity flow from these structures to a 1565 gallon septic tank, then to a 750 gal duplex
pump lift station. This effluent will be pumped approximately 430 ft. to a series of septic
tanks providing the required septic tank capacity equaling the 24 hour design flow. It is at
