AN OPEN LETTER TO
THE VOTERS OF BURNETT COUNTY
YOU HAVE A CHOICE
Grantsburg is desperate to retain the county seat. They are using
telephone harrassment, purposely causing confusion, spreading misin-
formation and making promises that cannot be kept. Remember, these
are the same people that sabotaged the election in 1976 which has
cost us over one million dollars in additional construction costs.
Part of the confusion, harrassment and scare tactics are aimed at
senior citizens. A "no" vote will not save you a dime.
With this issue before us for seven years, we have determined that the
taxpayers cannot afford to keep operating county government out of five
different locations and with a condemned jail and a courthouse in the
process of being condemned. We represent 2/3 of the county population.
We represent 75% of every tax dollar going to construction. In the best
interests of Burnett County, we have committed ourselves to a new
Government Center.
The jail will be closed in November unless we have an architect and de-
velop a construction schedule. On November 3, the Property Committee
meets to select an architect. On November 9, the County Board will meet
to approve a bond issue for 3.6 million dollars. Bonds will be sold in
February and construction bids will call for the start of construction
in the spring while interest rates and construction costs are down.
You decide on November 2 where the Government Center will be located.
A "No" vote means a new Government Center will be built in
Grantsburg at a site to be purchased.
A "YES" vote means a Government Center will be built at the county
owned airport in Meenon Township in the center of the county.
THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN COST.
