South of the planting area is obviously your 70 foot viewing and access corridor,
which you are allowed to keep mowed. The remainder of the shoreline is meant to be a no -touch, natural zone of
vegetation from the ordinary high water mark back to 35 feet. In some cases, as we discussed on-site, your structure is
closer than 35 feet. In this case you should restore to within 10 feet of the structure, narrowing the width of the no -
touch zone as indicated on the site diagram. Your northern most stretch of shoreline is steep and mostly has been left
alone, you don't need to do any plantings in this area.
Plant 15 native trees and 52 native shrubs from the plant list entitled, "Woodland Edge — Oak/Pine Barrens, Sandy to
Medium Soils, Partial Shade 4-8 hours", the final plant list in the Shoreline Restoration booklet found at this link:
http://www.burnettcounty.com/DocumentCenter/View/3278
Your tree planting should include at least two different tree species and your shrub planting should include at least 4
different shrub species. My recommendations are:
Trees:
Big -tooth aspen Populus grandidentata
White pine Pinus strobus
Shrubs:
Pin cherry
Prunus pensylvanica
Juneberry
Amelanchierlaevis
Snowberry
Symphoricarpus albus
Gray dogwood
Cornus racemose
You may substitute other species from this list if you like, however I'm selecting the most likely native vegetation that
will persist on your site over time. If you have any questions feel free to call or email, thanks,
Paul Cook
Burnett County
