Shoreline Buffer Restoration Plan
Stephanie McCumber
27927 Sand Lake Rd.
Webster, WI 54840
Buffer Restoration
The restored buffer must extend from the ordinary high water mark, 50 feet inland. Buffers consist of two major
components: The first component (35 feet deep) is a no -touch, natural vegetation zone and the second
component is a minimum maintenance zone. A single viewing/access corridor up to 35 feet wide for every full
100 feet of frontage, may cross both zones perpendicular to the shore. Vegetation removal, cutting, trimming
and land disturbing activities are prohibited in the no -touch zone. Limited pruning and mowing are
allowed in the viewing/access corridor and the minimum maintenance zone. Walkways, pathways and
stairs must be located in the viewing/access corridor; and piers, wharfs and lifts must be placed in the water
immediately in front of the corridor.
You will need to remove a large wood pile, as well as some pallet/dock sections and a canoe, that are all
stored within this no -touch zone.
The no -touch zone must be established and maintained from the ordinary high water mark and extend inland
thirty-five feet. The remaining buffer area, extending back to 50 feet and the 35 foot wide viewing/access
corridor must have adequate vegetative cover such as lawn grass.
Your access and viewing corridor has been raked to remove vegetation and create a "beach" area. The
buffer standard prohibits any bare soil within the access corridor. You will need to stop removing the
vegetation. You can still mow this area.
No Touch, Natural Vegetation Zone
There are two planting areas indicated on your site diagram. The smaller one north of your view corridor is
approximately 6 feet by 35 feet deep. The larger area is behind the existing natural vegetation and ice berm and
is approximately 15 feet by 36 feet.
Plant 2 trees and 3 native shrubs in the smaller planting area. Plant 5 trees and 8 shrubs in the larger
planting area. Instructions for planting are found in the landowner guide. Plan to water regularly the
first year to ensure plant survival. Allow existing vegetation to grow with no mowing or trimming.
*********VEGETATION NATIVE TO BURNETT COUNTY IS REQUIRED*********
The landowner guide includes appropriate plant lists and a list of businesses that provide native plants. These
plants are suited to the conditions of the property and will provide food and habitat for birds and animals around
the lake. Non-native vegetation planted in this zone as part of the restoration will be required to be
removed and replaced with native vegetation.
Tree Plantings
Plant at least 7 trees scattered throughout the two planting areas indicated on your site diagram. Species
recommendations are as follows:
Trees: Balsam Fir Abies balsamea 3
Red Maple Acer rubrum 4
