OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Burnett County
CORR
FIST# 16946
On June 25, 2018, I received a complaint regarding a large amount of solid waste disposed of / buried on the
property located at 24568 Williams Road, Town of Dewey, Burnett County, Wisconsin. According to county
records, this property is owned by you.
According to the complaint, you have been burying a large amount of solid waste (including household garbage
and appliances) on the property. Please be advised that the storage of solid waste (garbage) is not in compliance
with Wisconsin's solid waste statutes and rules. According to s. 289, Wis. Stats. and ch. NR 502.05, Wis. Adm.
Code, no person may operate a solid waste facility unless the person obtains an operating license from the
Department of Natural Resources (department) and no person may store or cause the storage of solid waste in a
manner which causes environmental pollution. The department found no record of a licensed solid waste facility
for this property.
Additionally, this is the second such complaint that the department has received regarding the disposal / burying
of solid waste materials on your property.
Next Stens
Based on the complaint report, these activities may have occurred on your property. You must take the following
steps to come back in compliance with Wisconsin's solid waste laws:
• Immediately stop and refrain from storing/burying solid waste on this property, now and in the
future. Contact me via telephone at (715)355-1005 by July 12 2018, to discuss arrangements for
disposal of the materials and clean-up at the site.
• Do not burn solid waste materials and recyclable materials. Burning materials such as garbage, oil,
plastics, and metals releases harmful toxins into the environment, which may create a health hazard
and nuisance for you and your neighbors.
Please be aware that the department enters solid waste complaints into our electronic tracking system for future
reference in case further enforcement is warranted.
Thank you for your cooperation.
