The project would raise the water level of the pond by 1 foot and <br />increase its size from approximately 0.25 acre to approximately 0.50 acre. <br />The depth of the pond would increase from approximately 3 1/2 feet to approxi- <br />mately 5 1/2 feet. The trout pond would be fed by existing springs at the <br />site. <br />QUANTITY, TYPE AND AREA OF FILL: The area of wetland filled for the dike <br />would be between 0.05 and 0.1 acre. The amount of fill material used for the <br />project would be approximately 150 cubic yards. <br />VEGETATION IN AFFECTED AREA: The wetland area to be filled for the dike <br />is classified on the Wisconsin Wetlands Inventory map as a forested, broad- <br />leaved deciduous, wet soil, palustrine floodplain complex. <br />SOURCE OF FILL MATERIAL: Dredging from the existing pond. <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE: The impoundment structure would be of earthen - <br />fill construction with a corrugated steel riser and treated -plank stop -logs. <br />The structure would include a 15 -inch corrugated -steel discharge tube and a <br />sodded emergency spillway. <br />DESCRIPTION OF DREDGING OR EXCAVATION: A dragline would be used to <br />dredge the existing pond. <br />5. THREATENED OR ENDANGERED WILDLIFE OR PLANTS OR THEIR CRITICAL HABITAT: <br />None were listed by the applicant or are known to exist in the permit area. <br />However, Burnett County is within the known or historic range of the following <br />threatened species: <br />Species <br />Bald eagle <br />Habitat <br />Breeding <br />This application is being coordinated with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service <br />and the National Marine Fisheries Service. Any comments they may have con- <br />cerning endangered or threatened wildlife or plants or their critical habitat <br />will be considered in our final assessment of the described work. <br />6. JURISDICTION: The Clam River, together with its adjacent wetlands, comes <br />under the regulatory jurisdiction of the Corps of Engineers because it is a <br />tributary to the St. Croix River, a navigable water of the United States. <br />REGULATORY AUTHORITY: The application will be reviewed according to the <br />provisions of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. Therefore, our public <br />interest review will consider the guidelines set forth under Section 404(b) of <br />the Clean Water Act (40 CFR 230). <br />2 <br />
