I am a retired veterinarian who still enjoys working with animals. For the past 2 years, my husband,
Mark, and I have volunteered at wildlife rehabilitation centers in Webster, the Twin Cities, and also in
Florida during the winter months. We decided to try rehabilitation ourselves. We wanted to begin in
the spring of 2021. Our hope was to build a free standing building on un-zoned land on our farm located
at 25008 Viola Lake Road in Webster but due to Covid-19,we have been unable to find someone to
build for us. Since we have no building,we would like to begin treatment and temporary care of injured,
diseased, and displaced wildlife with the subsequent return of healthy animals to the wild from our
home at 24938 Viola Lake Road in Webster. We propose no new buildings or changes to our property.
All animals will be caged and kept in our basement or on our deck or backyard. All cages are mobile and
no permanent structures for cages are planned. Trees near Viola Lake prevent boaters from seeing our
property or any outdoor cages. We will only be licensed to take care of squirrels, rabbits, turtles, and
songbirds. We will not be licensed for predator species or rabies vector species. All animal waste and
refuse will be disposed of into our garbage and not into our private septic system or the lake. None of
the species we will care for typically make a lot of noise. All wildlife will be released as close as possible
to where they were found or on private properties in the area. No animals will be released at our home.
I have spoken with our adjacent neighbors and all are supportive of our plan.We will not charge for our
wildlife rehabilitation services. Generally the species we will care for will need assistance from April
through October in this area.
