TOWN OF SCOTT
28390 County Road H
Spooner, WI 54801
November 26, 2018
Mr. Jason Towne, Director CL
Land Services Department
7410 County Road K, #120
Siren, WI 54872
Dear Jason:
Phone: 715-635-2308
Email: townofscottwiggmail.com
Website: townofscottwi.org
lvo
As you are quite aware, on November 12, 2018 at 9:00 AM, representatives from Camp Croix
gave a presentation to the Town of Scott Board of Supervisors relating to their proposed 15 year
CUP for the Camp Croix property. The presentation lacked much needed detail and still seems
very "open ended" and could "change" over time. What are the real intentions of the proposal?
Conversely, we feel the Town of Scott Board has a slightly better understanding of Camp Croix
intentions than before the October 2, 2018 Zoning Committee Meeting.
At our regularly scheduled Town of Scott Board Meeting on November 12, 2018 held at 7:00 PM,
the Town of Scott Board "unanimously voted to not give our vote of confidence" for this 15 year
planned CUP by Camp Croix. This is consistent with the wishes of the majority of citizens who
live on Rooney Lake and those who reside near or next to Camp Croix.
The reasons for a "no vote of confidence" are below:
1.) Camp Croix functions as a not-for-profit organization and pays minimal property tax to the
Town of Scott as well as to Burnett County. Our town and it's citizens will be solely
responsible for subsidizing Camp Croix for road maintenance, volunteer fire department
protection, ambulance services and law enforcement protection.
2.) Camp Croix intends to go from a "seasonal" occupancy of 260 maximum year round usage to
a "year round" usage of a potential of 400 plus people at any one time for weddings or
conferences.
3.) There will be increased road maintenance for both Kessler Road and Gold Star Road due to
increased traffic.
4.) There will be a potential "decrease" in property values as a result of the size of the
expansion, increased traffic and noise.
5.) Increased stress on the areas natural resources as many more boaters will be anticipated on a
320 acre lake. The public landing for Rooney Lake only handles 3 vehicles with trailers at a
maximum.
6.) There will exist an increase of invasive aquatic species as a result of the increased water craft
on Rooney Lake.
