BURNETT COUNTY
LAND & WATER CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT
7410 County Road K, #109
Siren,WI 54872
Telephone:(715)349-2186 Fax: (715)349-2102
July 25, 2002
David H. Arens
1006 6t' St. E.
St. Paul, MN 54893
Dear Mr. Arens,
After viewing the property located between 27250 and 27242 on Corbin Road by Mallard
Lake on July 24, 2002, I have determined that the hill by the lake shall remain untouched.
The slope shall remain vegetated and no trees shall be removed from area. The slope is
fragile and should not be disturbed.
If a stairway is built over the hill, the plan must be reviewed by the Land Conservation
Department and a permit must be obtained from the Zoning Department. A stairway
must also follow the guidelines as directed by the Burnett County Shoreland Zoning
Ordinance. Stairways and elevated walkways are a permitted use and must conform to
the following:
1. The structure shall be located so as to minimize earth disturbing activities and
shoreline vegetation removal during construction and to be visually inconspicuous as
viewed from the adjacent waterway and public thoroughfares.
2. The steps will be no more than four feet wide.
3. Structures shall be inconspicuously colored.
4. Railings are permitted only where required by safety concerns.
5. Canopies and roofs on such structures are prohibited.
6. One landing is permitted only where required by safety concerns and shall not exceed
40 square feet in area.
7. All structures, stairways, and landings will be reviewed and approved by the County
Zoning Administrator or reviewed by the County Land Conservationist and will meet
approved best management practices.
As recommended by the Burnett County Land Conservation Department, the steps
extending over the hill must be aboveground steps. These steps shall also be built in a
manner so that no trees will be removed from the hill.
Sincerely,
4,4,
Carol Fagerlin
Water Quality Specialist
Cc: Burnett County Zoning Office
