1)) W '
JUL 2 7 2023 j
Burnett County
Dear Burnett County Land and Use Committee and North Camp Propertie Land Services Department
First allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Craig and Cheryl Pudas from DuFours
Campground site#18. We are a newly retired couple who bought an existing trailer
and everything on site#18 in 2019 to be close to our grandkids. After we purchased
it from an elderly couple that had been there for 20+years,we spent the whole first
summer cleaning our site of debris and repairing the existing structures. We are
law abiding, caring people who respect others and their property and are the first to
lend a hand when needed. I tell you this not to build ourselves up but to help you
understand,we are the kind of people you want in your community.
The reason for this email/letter is to ask that you consider Grandfathering in ours
and many other deck/screen porch that have been on Dufours campground
property for years. We feel we have good reason to ask for this for the following
reasons.
1.The age of deck/screen porch. As we mentioned we purchased from a couple that
had been there for 20+years.These items were on the site when they purchased it,
however they did do maintenance on them because they were old at the time they
purchased it.They believed the items to be 30+years old. The county was well
aware of the situation as far back as 4/24/96 when Jim Flannigan states "3
incompliant screen porches and several decks found on property, owner states he
would get proper permits but 15 existing decks will remain non-compliant beyond
granting of CUP because they exceed 288sf. " Ours was one of these decks/screen
porches. We have no idea if the owner carried through on the permits as well as the
follow up by Mr. Flannigan however it does make us wonder when and if this was
handled. Also this mentions decks remain non-compliant and nothing about the
screen porch, was screen porches even in question back then? Also were there
restrictions on these accessory structures when they were actually built.
2.The size of our lot. Because the campground map does not have dimensions on it,
it is not clear how large our site is,in fact the map makes it looks like it is very close
quarters. When in reality compare to the other sites around us we could have 2
additional sites in our front and side yard area. On 9/15/21 Chapter 30, Land use
changes Sec 543 B1,I3 it read: Accessory uses -Via conditional use permit the land
use and information committee may grant larger storage structures, awnings,
deck/patio and screen house as part of the conditional use permit for larger sites.
Because this was written years after our accessories were built we humbly ask you
to consider this,as well.
3.The size of our deck. Because we have a destination Trailer it is not only longer
than a travel trailer but also higher (3') Our deck runs from the bedroom door to the
living room sliding door and is wide enough for a table and chairs comfortably. If
we were to shorten the deck we would need to build a substantial stairs with railing
and landing to our bedroom because of the height of the trailer therefore defeating
the purpose of shortening it. Or possibly cutting a notch out of the existing deck for
