Shoreland Restoration Plan
Daniel and Julia Linahon
27468 Hill Road
Restoration Requirements
1. Remove all retaining wall structures
2. Regrade to natural slope
3. Restore natural buffer zone according to county standards
1. Remove all retaining wall structures
Retaining walls are considered structures which are generally not permitted within the
setback zone. Walls were not necessary for slope stabilization until grading was
completed.
2. Regrade to natural slope
Bring fill back to create original slope. The slope should be at least 2 foot horizontal for
each 1 foot vertical. Additional sand may need to be brought in to create this slope. Do
not bring in topsoil which may wash into the lake.
Stabilize the re-sloped area by seeding with annual rye and a mix of grasses. Native
grasses are recommended for the sandy soils present on the site. You might try a mix of
native grasses and flowers such as the erosion control native prairie mix from Prairie
Nursery
http://www.prairienursery.com/store/seed-mixes/erosion-control-seed-mix-for-dry
soils#.VbENXXLbLcs
or the Short Dry Native Grass Mix from Prairie Restoration
httv://www.t)rairieresto.00m/ItemDiVIay.php?i=l 3&clD=14
Cover with excelsior erosion control mat.
Water regularly to ensure that seeds sprout and grow.
Reseed/plant if vegetation does not establish well.
3. Restore natural buffer zone according to county standards
The buffer zone/vegetation protection area requirements in Burnett County ordinance are
as follows:
A 50 feet deep vegetation protection area is required for Class 1 Lakes such as Big
McKenzie Lake. The vegetation protection area(the buffer)consists of two major
components: the first component(35 feet deep) is a no-touch, natural vegetation zone,
and the second component is a minimum maintenance zone. A single viewing/access
corridor up to 30 feet wide may cross both zones perpendicular to the shore. Vegetation
removal and land disturbing activities are prohibited in the no-touch zone. Limited
pruning and mowing are allowed in the viewinglaccess corridor and the minimum
maintenance zone.Walkways, pathways, and stairs must be located in the
viewing/access corridor; and piers, wharfs and lifts must be placed in water immediately
in front of the corridor.
2
