JUNE MEETING
TOWN OF SWISS
The Swiss Town Board held their regular June meeting on Tuesday June 9, 1987
at 7:00 P.M. in the Swiss Town Hall. Those present were; Chairman Michael Mahlon
Supervisors Gary Gramer and Richard Gulden, Treasurer Teresa McDowell, Clerk
Joanne Zillmer and many other interested citizens.
The May minutes were read. Notion by Gary, seconded by Gulden to accept them as
read. Mahlon opened some discussion as to points of the minutes. There was a
discussion as to the problem of dumping in the 26 lake dump. It was stated that
some gravel will be needed on the sand as the trucks are getting stuck. The Board
will have some hauled out there. Gulden bought two new locks for the two dumps.
They are both keyed the same. There are six keys. They will go to the attendants,
the state, the DNR, and the fire chief.
Gulden asked about the leak in the stove of the town hall. The Clerk stated that
Mr. Nelson had tried to fix it again.
Mahlon stated that the lights for the Town Hall and Ambulance Hall have come in
the Board will find someone to install them.
Gulden asked about the Town Hall doors. It was decided that someone will look
into having the lock fixed.
Mahlon stated that our part time road worker Mr. Schultz has quit. It was
decided that we will not hire another worker at this time. We will keep
Mr. Myer on full time for now.
Treasurer's report was read. Motion by Gramer, seconded by Mahlon to approve it
as read.
Steve Olson explained to the Board that they would like to build a building on
the south and of his land on Tower road. He explained that he has talked to the
Assessor about the reclassifying of this land from agricultural to commercial. The
building will be used to house a machine milling shop. After some discussion the
Board stated that they were in full approval of this business being placed on
this land. Three votes of yes and no votes of no on this decision. The Board
asked that the Clerk send a copy of the minutes to Mr. Flannigan stating that
the Board is very pleased to have this business in our Town.
The problem of law enforcement was discussed. It was decided that when we
have our next election, we will present another referendum to the people as to
their wishes on this problem. They would like to have it before the next annual
meeting so it could be discussed. Motion by Gulden, seconded by Gramer to have
this referendum on the next election held in the Town of Swiss. This will be a
yes or no vote. The Board will try to budget some money in the future toward
some law enforcement.
Mahlon brought up the amount that the Town pays for rodent control at our two
dumps. The Board decided that we would terminate the services From Guardian Pest
Control and have our dump attendants place the necessary poisen and control in
both of the dumps as required.
The next on the agenda was the matter of mowing the town roads. The Clerk stated
that she had published the request for bids in the paper and had not received any
bids. There was a discussion that the Town of Lincoln has a machine for this and
does go out into other townships. Myer stated that he could rent a mower for this,
he will look into the price. Zeb also stated that he had a machine for this and
would like to bid on it. The Board decided that both Myer and Zeb bring a figure
to the July meeting and the decision will be made then.
It was stated that the cemeteries need mowing again. The Board decided that
they should be mowed now. Mahlon will contact Mr Young and have them mowed
as soon as possible.
Myers stated that he would like to have some work done on East Bass Lake Road.
He is to grade this road and see if it will need some gravel. The Board will
check into how much of this road the Town of Swiss owns. Zim will check this
ouL so we know how far to patrol and plow.
Mahlon read a letter that he received from the First American Bank. They
