Burnett County Zoning Administration
BURNETT COUNTY OFFICE BUILDING
WEBSTER, WISCONSIN 54893
PHONE: 715-866-4361
November, 1979
I'm sure everyone is aware of the beauty and pristine natural settings that the
Burnett County area offers. At the same time I must wonder as to the sincerity of
people who enjoy this area for the natural splendor and at the same time contribute cti `
to the degradation of our natural resources. It is very easy to see destructs and
blight caused by air pollution, water pollution, etc. It is another matter tole
aware of pollution that may be taking place unseen by the human eye. In the past few
months I have been made aware of the large number of travel trailers located on
Voyager Village lots. This awareness has come to me by site inspection and due to
the great concern of many property owners in Voyager Village.
argument is not with the trailers being parked on these
My privately owned lots, but' ,"
with the methods .some of the travel trailer owners currently employ for the disposal
of their domestic wastes. The State Plumbing Code H62.20 states, "All domestic wastes
shall enter the septic or treatment tank unless otherwise specifically exempted by the
Department or this chapter." This includes not only sewage, but also the disposal of
gray water (that which is run through only the sink).
Many people feel that the small amounts of wastes they generate will not adversely
affect the environment. This may be the case where a homeowner owns a large piece
of property, such as a forty, where the owner has no immediate neighbors. However,
in the case of more densely populated areas, one must look closely at ground water
pollution. In the case of Voyager Village, it is even more essential to do all that
is possible due to the prevalence of shallow well systems throughout the area. If
these domestic wastes are not properly treated, there is a good possibility that they
will interefere with our underground water acquifers, and may pollute and contaminate
our drinking water.
In writing this article, I am asking for your help as property owners to correct the
illegal systems that have been installed for trailer usage. If you are presently
running your domestic wastes into the ground untreated, please either install a
conventional septic system or else transport your trailer to a pump-out station at
appropriate and necessary times. I hope this office will not have to "red tag"
and start violation proceedings at any time this coming year for inadequate sanitary
systems in Voyager Village.
If you have any questions concerning sanitary waste disposal, we will be glad to help
all we can. Either give us a call at 715-866-4361, or drop us a note at the Zoning
Office, P. 0. Box 117, County Office Bldg., Webster. Thank you for your interest in
wading through this article; I know sanitary waste disposal is not the most appealing
or interesting topic.
LAO
Carl J.
