RESTORATION PLAN'
Jim Fricton
29179 Ford Road 4700 Dale Drive
Loon Lake Edina, MN 55424
612-920-7734
012-4212-01-800
Buffer Restoration
The vegetative buffer must be restored along the shoreline as a condition of the land use
permit for the addition to your cabin. The restored buffer must extend from the ordinary
high water mark 50 feet inland on Class 1 lakes such as Loon Lake.
Buffers consist of two major components: the first component (normally 35 feet deep) is
a no-touch, natural vegetation zone, and the second component is a minimum
maintenance zone. A single viewing/access corridor up to 30 feet wide may cross both
zones perpendicular to the shore. Vegetation removal and land disturbing activities
are prohibited in the no-touch zone. Limited pruning and mowing are allowed in
the viewing/access corridor and the minimum maintenance zone. Walkways,
pathways, and stairs must be located in the viewing/access corridor; and piers, wharfs and
lifts must be placed in water immediately in front of the corridor.
The no-touch zone on this site must be established and maintained from the ordinary
highwater mark and extend at least 35 feet inland. An additional 15 feet inland must be
maintained as a minimum maintenance zone.
The enclosed Shoreland Buffer Restoration Plan provides guidance for planting buffer
areas. Plant selections are found on the reverse of the plan drawing. Vegetation that is
native to Burnett County has been selected for soil moisture and light conditions on the
site. Substitutions of different species may be made, but they should be chosen from a
list native to Burnett County. Plantings that do not survive must be replaced.
The.Shoreline Buffer Restoration Guide for Landowners provides planting instructions,
plant lists and sources, and additional guidance for your restoration project. A shoreline
restoration video that provides planting instruction is also available for loan from the
Land and Water Conservation Department.
1preparcd by Cheryl Bursik, Dragonfly Consulting on behalf of the Burnett County Land and Water
Conservation Department.
